Blog comments?

This is my random thought for the day. How is it that 100-200 people can look at a blog each day and only one or two leave a comment?

Perhaps it just isn't that interesting.

Donuts!

"Nuff said! Mmmmm!! Who doesn't love a warm, fresh donut? If you haven't ever made your own donuts, then you are missing out! It is super easy and they are delicious! On top of it all, it's a fun activity to do with your kiddos! Mine loved it and I see a lot more donut-making in our future (within reason, of course!). I was inspired by this blog. Her donuts look a lot more "realistic" than mine do and it may be that I used a different type of biscuit than she did? I had to use the biscuits that are made without milk and egg for my allergic boy. I was excited to be able to make something like this that he would be able to eat! Here is our donut making morning.. in pictures!

Here's all of our supplies!

The "pop!" of the biscuit can was very fascinating for both of them!

We went with the "patriotic" theme for our donuts since we have our 4th of July vacation on the brain.. and maybe because I couldn't find a small circle cookie cutter....

I just love this picture of her little hand! Such a helper!

Before putting the whole donut in, I had to test with a star donut "hole".

The holes were great so I kept on! I love it! These are super fun!

I turned them out onto a cooling rack stacked on a cookie sheet for any excess oil to drain off.

Then, while still warm, I placed each donut in my "icing",
which was made from powdered sugar and water.

Then we had to top with our patriotic sprinkles, of course!!

Tasting the donuts.....

He LOVED them!

We made some with "sparkles" (as Brooke calls them) and some plain ones.

Part-way through we discovered that the rolling pin from the play kitchen
actually worked better than my wooden one!

Seriously, try these- you won't be sorry! You may be fatter, but not sorry!

"One Hour" Sundress....

Or not. It always takes me longer to make something the first time I make it and this "One Hour Sundress" took at least 2x what it said.. but I did also try to make two at once.. so maybe the name does fit it?! I figured if I was making one, I may as well make two! I finished 4th of July dress #2 today and went ahead and cut out and worked on another dress with some adorable fabric I picked up the other day. I followed this tutorial from the From An Igloo Blog (she has some great tutorials! I've made her art case as well). She did a great job of walking you through the steps and I had no trouble at all completing this today, albeit wasn't completed during actual naptime! There was some "put both kids in the crib in the craft room to play" time, some snack time in your play room time, and some get out 2 puzzles... which the kids loosely translated into meaning "dump out the entire BIN of puzzles and destroy the play room floor". Oh well! Brooke wanted the dress to be finished for her to wear to "bible church" (Vacation Bible School). We had to leave at 5:15. I finished it at 5:05! Whew.. just in time to snap a couple of quick pics before heading out!

I love how it turned out. It is a long dress, which is ok and she can wear it for a while. I didn't finish the other dress and before I sew up the sides, I'm going to cut the main fabric into more of an a-line shape instead of a sheath. I think I will like that even better!

Here's all of the material cut up.. I did this while sitting on the floor. Good times!

This is what I had to work around.... and yes.... I can still see my toes!!

Two of everything = twice the amount of FUN!

So, the only thing I did differently than the tutorial is that I don't do my ruffles with basting stitches anymore!.. not since I discovered the awesome and amazing way of using a wide zig-zag and a contrasting piece of thread in the middle instead! LOVE it! Okay, I love it as much as I can love sewing damn ruffles. They are a major pain in the hiney, but they are worth it for the cuteness that they add to anything!  I tried to take a picture of the zig-zag/ thread in action!

And there is my little pretty!!

My sweet, beautiful, patient girl!! She is rad.

Oh, and I wasn't kidding about the Puzzle-palooza!
 SEE!?!?!
I would also like to add: I love Melissa & Doug products. They are superior to most of their counterparts. However, the puzzles with sounds are CREEPY!! They have been randomly going off all night long- freaking me out! I've heard sirens, roars, chirps, and barking coming from the play room all night long.. and no one is in there! Seriously, after I snapped this picture, I got a siren as I walked away...  Ooooh maybe that was on purpose! Sweet. I've still got it! Yup, yup.

Father's Day 2011

For the third year in a row, I've hauled the kid(s) outside, given them a wooden letter, taken 23080343 pictures (no lie), picked out the best 3, and then matted them for a super sweet Father's Day gift! Corey has always loved them so now it's a tradition, I guess! I'm psyched about next year when each letter will have a different child holding it!

Let's start this by saying that I live in Texas. I am 7 months pregnant. It is already in the 100's... in June!. It's hard to get two kids to 1. hold a letter, 2. smile, 3. look at the camera. Trust me. All the while I'm flapping around like a bird in a bird bath with a clipped wing... making noises to get them to look at me, reminding the 3 year old to just keep looking at  me and not "help" her 1 year old brother (as sweet as that is!) because it just pisses him off, cursing in my head (most of the time), and sweating in unnatural places. But.... it is ALL worth it!

Since I'm pretty sure that my dear husband doesn't read my blog (pretty sure he doesn't even know the blog address), it is safe for me to post my final pics! I will get a 3-opening picture frame to put these in for Dad's day! Here are the winners- and by winners, I mean the best of what I had to work with! At some point I said ENOUGH- which is why the picture with both of them is pretty much a fail pic!

And... while I have your attention.. please enjoy some of the um... outtakes!
